“A mig-what?”

Migma, a word used just once in the New Testament to mean a mixture or compound. This blog will be a bit of the same; a little of this & a little of that.

If you’re curious, it’s John 19:39:

“And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.”

ἦλθεν δὲ καὶ Νικόδημος, ὁ ἐλθὼν πρὸς αὐτὸν νυκτὸς τὸ πρῶτον, φέρων μίγμα σμύρνης καὶ ἀλόης ὡς λίτρας ἑκατόν.

Migma is easy to say. The same cannot be said for the Slavonic “smyeh-SHEH-nee-yeh.”

Прииде же и Никодимъ, пришедый ко Іисусови нощію прежде, нося смѣшеніе смирнено и алойно, яко литръ сто.

Yes, we’ll stick with migma.
